First issued in 1986 the American Silver Eagle has become far and away the most collected modern silver coin in the World! Each coin is struck from 1oz of. Over the years, several different varieties of Silver Eagles have been struck (Mint State, Proof, Burnished, Reverse Proof & Enhanced) but one thing that had remained unchanged was the design.
The obverse had always featured Adolph Weinman's classic Walking Liberty design along with the inscriptions "LIBERTY", "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year. The reverse, designed by the 12th U. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti, depicts a heraldic eagle with a shield. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", 1OZ.
FINE SILVER" and "ONE DOLLAR also encompass the reverse. In 2021, for the first time in 35 years, the classic American Silver Eagle was updated with an enhanced obverse design and a brand new reverse design! The classic Walking Liberty design by Adolph Weinman is still featured on the obverse of what is now referred to as the Type 2 Silver Eagle.However, thanks to technological advancements in the design and minting process, Liberty now encompasses some of Weinman's original details that were not previously possible! The new reverse was designed by the artist Emily Damstra and sculpted by U.
It features an eagle as it approaches a landing, carrying an oak branch, as if to add it to it's nest. Also included in the reverse design are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", "1 OZ FINE SILVER" and "ONE DOLLAR".
Before production could begin on the new Type 2 Silver Eagle, production had to come to an end with the original design which is now referred to as the Type 1 Silver Eagle. By June, the Mint began to wind down production of the Type 1 Silver Eagles. On the final day of production, the last of the Type 1 2021 American Silver Eagles rolled out of the coin presses. After these last coins were struck, the U. Mint paused production to swap out the dies and begin production of the new Type 2 Silver Eagle.
In total, only 150,000 Type 1 Silver Eagles were produced that qualify for the Last Day of Production pedigree! In the event the wrong item is delivered Coin Advisor will pay for the return.
