This coin is graded by NGC perfect 70 with our exclusive Flag Core holder. 2021 is a significant year for the Silver American Eagle. In 2019 the US Mint announced it would change the design of the Silver Eagle in 2021. Collectors thought the new design would begin at the beginning of 2021, but 2020 caused the US Mint great difficulty due to the pandemic. As a result, the original Heraldic Eagle reverse coin (called Type 1) continued to be produced for the first half of 2021. In July 2021 the US Mint began releasing the Eagle Landing reverse coin (called Type 2). Because of the demand by collectors seeking both designs with the 2021 date, the US Mint has been unable to produce enough coins at their West Point Mint facility, and the San Francisco Mint facility has helped produce coins. These coins are described as emergency production by NGC.The San Francisco minted coins will only be a small subset of the coins made this year and because the coins do not have a mint mark, only graded coins can be guaranteed to be from the San Francisco Mint.
