In 2014, the Perth Mint launched a series dedicated to the Wedge-Tailed Eagle, Australia's largest bird of prey. The wildlife design for each release to date has been created by John Mercanti, the currently retired 12th U. This 2022 dated release represents the series' first pairing of an enhanced reverse proof finish and a high relief Piedfort style, on a two ounce silver coin. The mirrored design elements on the enhanced reverse proof are selectively rendered with varying frosted textures, which results in a dramatic three-dimensional effect. This 2022 Australian Wedge-Tailed Eagle coin contains 2 Troy oz.
The coin is minted in the double thick Piedfort style with a breathtaking enhanced reverse proof finish. The 40.90 mm diameter coin features exquisite high relief imagery.
This ninth year of issue release is struck with the seventh design of the series. The perfectly graded coin includes a designer signed label. Mintage of this numismatic treasure will not exceed 2,000 pieces.Obverse: The effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed in 2015 by acclaimed British sculptor Jody Clark is located on the obverse. Silver release of the Australian Silver Wedge-Tailed series was submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) for review. The coin is sonically sealed in a NGC protective holder with a patriotic Australian flag themed certification label which is graced with the genuine signature of the coin's reverse designer John Mercanti.
