Launched on May 5, 1730, the Vliegenthart, part of the Dutch East India Company's fleet, measured 145 feet in length and 36 feet in width. Armed with 42 guns, it embarked on a journey to the East Indies in late 1731, returning to the Dutch port of Rammekens in August 1734. Sinking in Dutch waters, all 461 individuals aboard perished. The wreck, found in 1981, yielded valuable artifacts, including a secret map and chests of Mexican silver and Dutch gold coins, the latter totaling 67,000 guilders.

Salvage efforts unveiled thousands of Mexican cobs, predominantly 8 Reales, in excellent condition, with some dated in the early 1730s.
