By the first century AD, when the depicted silver drachm was struck, the Himyar had expanded their dominion, establishing Zafar as their capital. Remarkably, the Himyarites embraced Judaism, becoming one of the rare ancient Arab peoples to do so. Post 380 CE, the Himyarite Kingdom transformed into a Jewish monarchy. However, their rule endured for over six centuries before succumbing to the Abyssinians in 525 CE.
